According to Quickfunction, advertising is one of the most important things present in society. Obviously, we agree which we happened to mention in last week’s blog post. But why? Why are the advertisements you see while driving, watching television anADVERTISING concept on a screend everywhere else in your path necessary?

Well, not only do advertisements introduce new products that hit the market … they expand the market. Advertisements help spread awareness about products or services that are of some use to consumers and potential consumers and they are crucial in maintaining your company’s tempo in the market.

Here are a few reasons why advertising is important:

  1. Advertising educates society.

It has an incredible way of reaching the masses and educating consumers about your product or service.

  1. Advertising is target-oriented.

When you match a very personal message to a very select audience, you get greater connection.

  1. It helps build your brand’s image.

Repeated advertisements make branded products and services very popular. People tend to show a more trustworthy attitude towards advertised brands over non-advertised ones.

  1. It increases sales.

Advertising sparks an interest of advertised products and services among consumers. Interest increases demand and the growing demand soon results in higher sales.

The bottom line is, advertising is a way of giving a message to consumers. How do you expect a consumer to buy your product or use your service if they don’t know it exists?This is why advertising is so important, so consumers are aware of what you and your business have to offer.

What is Advertising?

We’re starting a new blog series all about what you need to know about advertising. This week, we are starting off with the question, “What is advertising?”

Simply put, advertising is the process of making your product, brand, or service known to the market place. It’s essentially spreading the word about what your company has to offer with the hopes of not only bringing awareness but also persuading consumers to take action. The end goal would be for consumers to buy and use your product or service as a result of advertising. Advertising

So what does advertising look like? Advertisements are commercials you see on television or ones you hear on the radio. They are big billboard signs you see while driving down the road, the insert in the local newspaper, or brand labels. Advertisements have also made their way into every aspect of the Internet whether you are directly shopping for a product or service or if you’re just browsing a social networkto get caught up with friends.

According to Red Crow Marketing, it’s estimated that most Americans are exposed to around 4,000 to 10,000 advertisements each day. Ron Marshall, with Red Crow Marketing, thought that number seemed extreme, so he tested it out himself. It started with turning off his Sony-alarm clock and he immediately used his Panasonic TV and Dish Network remotes to turn on the TV where he listened to 46 commercials. He was exposed to more brands from the tags on his clothes while he was getting dressed and when he opened up his pantry to make breakfast; he counted 214 food brand labels. By the time breakfast was over, he was already exposed to around 487 ads, he ended his experiment there.

If you want to see for yourself how many advertisements you’re exposed to, try keeping track of it all. No matter where you go, you’ll be exposed to some kind of advertising. They’re everywhere and it’s an important part of making your product or service succeed.

The Importance of Monitoring your Brand Online

In a previous blog post, we covered a few quick tips to get you started with reputation management. Here is some additional information to reiterate why monitoring your brand online is so important.

Consider these stats shared by Business2Community:

  • More than 25% of a company’s market value is directly attributable to their reputation
  • 41% of companies that have been dealt a reputation blow reported loss of brand value and revenue
  • 86% of consumers are willing to pay more for services from a company with a good reputation
  • 80% of consumers have changed their mind about a purchasing decision as a result of negative information

Remember that basic reputation management can go a long way. Simply claiming your business listings on review sites and being aware of what is being said is a great start but the effort can’t stop there. The next step is to get involved in what story is being told about you via Google and other search engines to ensure a positive picture of your brand. Coming to a Facebook Business Page Near You

This week many of our clients began to see the option to upload a video to the cover photo area of their business page. Here are a few must knows before jumping into it:

  • Your video can be between 20-90 seconds long
  • Your video must be at least 820 x 312 pixels
  • The video will automatically start to play when a user comes the page
  • The video will be muted by default (there is a mute/unmute option in the bottom right corner)

However, these aren’t the only things to keep in mind when uploading new content to this area. Use this area wisely. Just because the video looks great on desktop doesn’t mean it will have the same look or effect on mobile. You’ll have to plan wisely for content to scale in both areas.

Don’t upload your latest commercial or music video. Instead, use the space for dynamic content that illustrates your brand and further tells your story. This means stay away from text, quick speed and too many images. Also, don’t underestimate the power of a crisp, powerful image if you can’t find the right video to tell your story.

3 Quick Tips About Reputation Management

Reputation management is important for numerous reasons but one of the main reasons is that all of your other marketing efforts (TV, radio, print, etc.) will eventually lead your customers/consumers to learn more about you online.

Have you Google’ed your business lately? What are the first three things that comes up? Are they positive? Are they even about your business? Now, these results may be slightly different for each person Googling but are you doing enough from your end to ensure your best foot is forward?

We know securing and protecting your company and brand (that you’ve worked so hard to build) can be overwhelming on the World Wide Web so here are a few things to think about as you think through your strategy.

  1. There is no opt-out

Secure your business listings across all applicable websites (Google, Yelp, Facebook, etc.) even if you’re not ready to implement a full fledge strategy. If you do not secure or create your own presence on these types of sites, chances are someone else will. In many instances, there is only one opportunity to secure listings and you will want to make sure you have control over that vs. the general public. The last thing you want is someone representing your brand that has no business doing so.

  1. Make an investment with time and money

Most local businesses are ignoring the need for online reputation management or taking matters into their own hands without the adequate knowledge or time to commit to it. If you are not familiar with establishing and managing online communities, it may be best to outsource these efforts to an agency or provider that is familiar with the delicacy of online reputation management.

  1. Transparency goes a long way

If your company delivered a less than desirable experience or simply messes up, apologize. The key to a solid online reputation is authentic engagement. Being authentic with both positive and negative reviews left by consumers can go a long way. Don’t overlook the importance of sharing in the excitement of a positive review. And for the negative ones, avoid online arguments. As hard as it can be at times, hit backspace on the less than stellar response you typed and take that tense conversation offline to reconcile. Everyone is watching, very closely. Every interaction has the potential to make or break your brand in the matters of seconds.

The Facebook Changes They Didn’t Tell You About

Have you noticed that the photo section of your Facebook business page is now dominated by your photo and video section? Have you noticed that your posts are now buried below this content?

Facebook has introduced templates that can be selected based on user or administrator needs in the Edit Page section of your Facebook page. There are layout templates customized for business, shopping, venues, politicians, professional services and restaurants. By default, your page is set as “Standard”.

Here’s how to change your page’s template to make it more effective:

1. From your business page, click “Settings”

4. Under Templates click “Edit” — there you’ll have the option to choose from a business, professional services, shopping, standard, venues, politicians or a restaurants & cafes template.

This section also provides the option to reorganize the tabs on your Facebook business page. Click and drag a tab name to rearrange the order. The tab order also determines the order of the sections people see at the top of your Page.

Facebook changes can be subtle and leave us a little mind boggled. If something changes, pursue the backend “Edit Page” options. Chances are there will be a way to make adjustments to these new changes.

Kristin Moore, President & CEO

Growing up in a small town, Kristin learned to enjoy the little things in life, but always had big ideas. Working in media sales for almost 5 years gave her a strong knowledge of creative advertising, branding and media buying. Kristin started INSPYR in 2015 to utilize her knowledge and work with local businesses in creative and innovative ways to advertise and market their unique brands.

Kristin lives in Bloomington, Illinois with her husband Drew, goldendoodle  Tucker and baby boy Moore due in May of 2017.

Nikki Wright, Managing Director

Nikki has a love for all things creative and brings over 5 years of experience in social media and corporate communications to INSPYR. Her previous roles include social media manager for Pepperdine University in Malibu, California and corporate communications manager for White Lodging Services in the Chicagoland area. In both roles, Nikki was the lead for the creation and implementation of social media strategy, policy, procedures and practices.

Nikki lives in Bloomington, Illinois with her husband Miles, daughter Reagan and two puppies Dodger & Tate.
